Play Skills for Parents

This two-part theory and practical play skills workshop is designed for parents with children aged 2-8 years looking at developing a deeper relationship and connection with their child through play and communication.


Research shows that play is a fundamental part of child development and this course aims to empower and equip parents with practical play skills and most importantly enjoy play too!


Part 1 (2 hours) Parent/carer only

Part 2 (2 hours) Parent/carer and child/ren


What will I learn?

  • A parents role within the play cycle
  • What is child-led play
  • The value of play and benefits of play
  • How play builds confidence and allows children to thrive
  • Subcortical systems of play and healthy attachment
  • Parent Playbook with helpful techniques and ideas for family time






Play Skills can support parents who:


  • want to dedicate time for uninterrupted play
  • want to learn skills on how to effectively participate in play and also allowing space for independent play
  • want to find enjoyment in taking part in pretend play
  • want to nurture different play interests between siblings


Play Skills can also help support parents with children who are experiencing:


  • family issues, like divorce, separation, or grief
  • low esteem/confidence
  • sibling conflict
  • digital device withdrawal

Leanne has over 25 years of experience in the field of natural wisdom, contemporary crafts, mindfulness and somatic movement education.

Leanne directs, leads and delivers training at CommuniTree. She is currently working towards a Masters in play therapy .
